    PEDAGOGY

I originally created this product for my own classroom. I needed a way to assess my students’ understanding of text features other than by observation, and I wanted the assessment to tie in to our science and social studies curriculum. Thus, this product was born. The kids have fun using different colors to identify the different text features, and it provides great work samples for me.

    HOW CAN I USE IT?

    • enrichment or remediation for understanding text features
    • direct instruction regarding using text features to identify main idea
    • morning work, bell ringer, seat work
    • assessment
    • homework

TRUSTED BY MORE THAN 9,000 TEACHERS!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I LOVE the idea of combining reading comprehension, text features AND social studies/science! You did it all and made it fun for students!" - Jessica W.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This was exactly the hands-on, immediate practice my students needed to understand text features. One week of using these materials and now they are experts!" - Amy S.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This resource is a great way for my students to be able to identify text features within the context of a passage or text they're reading vs in isolation. It makes the identification of text features more meaningful and also connects the purpose of the meaning to what you can learn from the text feature in the passage." - Kristyn, 2nd grade teacher

    WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

The average Lexile level of the 22 nonfiction passages in this product is 820L (equivalent to a GRL of Q or higher). This product is geared toward third through fifth graders, although it is much more rigorous when used in the lower grades. I use these exact passages with my second graders. They are perfect for shared reading as a class or for buddy reading.
