Who was Claudette Colvin? Most people know that Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white person and helped stop segregation on buses in Alabama, but did you know that Claudette Colvin did the same thing when she was only 15? And she did it BEFORE Rosa Parks? Twice Toward Justice is Claudette’s story: part memoir, part historical account, the text alternates between Claudette’s own words and the author’s explanations of background figures and events. It includes some primary documents: arrest records and newspaper articles that help tell the story.
