Non-Fiction Writing and Animals in Our Community Learning Bundle (Grade 1/2)

These resources are perfect for doing a cross-curricular Science and Literacy unit focused on animals in the community and non-fiction books/writing.

Early years like Grades 1 and 2 are the target grades for these activities.

Learning about animals and non-fiction books provides students with the tools for using non-fiction books to learn about said animals. Students will learn what diagrams are and practice labeling studied animals, and students will learn what fact boxes and captions are, as well as much more.

These text features give students deeper understandings for non-fiction books and give them a great starting point for future Science research.
