Organizing debates can be easy with this step-by-step planning document.

Students can visualize the debate and follow the instructions to prepare a debate.

Included:

-The steps, a timeline with graphic organizer

-The rubric

-Engaging debate prompts about school, technology and entertainment and ethics.

Students will discuss those ahead of time to prepare arguments for the debate. Some of those you can keep secret for the final round.

Students who are not engaged should still be respectful audience, and cheer on their team members.

Creating debates in class helps student develop communication and critical thinking skills. It boosts their confidence and helps them express their ideas about important 21st century topics.

To help my students plan their debate I also like to use Kialo (free)
