What educators are saying

I used this lab as mini stations after having taught a lesson about Newton's laws. It was a great way for the students to see Newton's laws applied to every day examples. The lab stations were simple, using easy to find materials.
I loved this lab! I only did 9 of the 12 stations but that was enough for them to cover each station in 2 class periods. It was engaging and relatable to the students and I loved hearing the conversations between them working to develop a common understanding of Newton's Laws.

Description

These 12 Newton's Laws of Motion Discovery stations will allow your students to sort out Newton’s three laws of motion for themselves!

Each station is easy to set up and each one takes about 3 minutes for the students to complete.

Attached are directions for the teacher, including the materials list (all materials are easy-to-come-by things like plastic cups, eggs, marbles, toy cars, washers, etc.). The only thing that you may need to look for ahead of time are two Newton spring scales and one or two fishing bobbers.

Also included are the signs that contain the directions for each station and a student sheet for recording answers to the questions posed at the stations. An answer key is also provided that has answers/explanations for each of the stations.

I use these stations the day after I introduce Newton's Laws and I love listening in on the conversations as the students decide which law is best represented by each station activity.
