Do you work with older newcomer students in upper elementary? Do they need an overview of basic phonics that includes vocabulary and is age appropriate and follows the science of reading by introducing phonics concepts in a specific sequence? Then this set is just what you need.
This set includes lessons for introducing letter sounds, decodable reading passages to practice the new phonics concepts, sentence strips, a phonics picture dictionary, and word-building cards.
There are two versions of lessons and decodable passages. One set with real photographs and one set with clip art. Both versions follow the same sequence of letters but include different materials.
Scope & Sequence

Print and Go Workbook
The student work pages have all the materials for each lesson included. No cutting or gluing is required.
Decodable Passages
There are separate short vowel decodable passages included. Each passage includes on average 3 new letter sounds sounds.
The clip art set includes three versions. One with full size text, one with the high frequency sight words that are not yet decodable in smaller font, and one with comprehension questions at the bottom.
Decodable Sentences
Use the short vowel decodable sentences for students that are not yet ready for long amounts of text or need additional practice decoding words with the new letter sounds, uses clip art.
Word Building Cards
Picture cards with sound boxes with or without letters. Students practice handwriting, spelling and phonemic awareness skills as they trace the words, fill in the missing letter, or spell the word, uses clipart.
Alphabet Chart
An alphabet chart with key words using basic vocabulary and lips showing how to pronounce each letter sound is included in color and black and white.
Picture Phonics Vocabulary Sheets
This set of picture dictionary vocabulary pages are organized by words that students can create based on the letters that they have been introduced to.
The words are organized with sentence frames that help students create simple sentences to use in speaking or for writing.
Spelling Practice Sheets
Each Vocabulary page comes with a corresponding spelling practice page for students to practice spelling the new words. At the top of the page are all the letters students have been introduced to and the only ones needed to create the words.
