new year emergent reader

5,4,3,2,1....Happy New Year!

Get your emergent readers engaged in a book about ringing in the New Year- that they can read and write themselves!

Working on sight word recognition and reading with 1:1 correspondence with your early emergent readers?

Want to build sentences with your students and then have them practice reading and/or writing in a book of their own?!

Start the year off right when you present your students with this pack of Common Core aligned reading fun that will get them excited reading and writing all on their own!

Download the preview to see pages of the book in both color and black and white, the 'write your own story'' pages, word cards, picture/word cards and punctuation cards!

This Pack Includes:

*8 page early emergent reader ‘Happy New Year!’ in color and black and white

*8 page early emergent reader ‘Happy New Year!’ with a blank line for students to write their own version

*13 word cards (See, the, Blow, Hear, Wear, a, fall, Lets, Look, at, It, is, I) for use in a pocket chart

*2 punctuation cards (. and !) for use in a pocket chart

*10 picture and word cards for use in a pocket chart

How To Copy:

On your copier, select ‘collated’ and ‘staple’ with the ‘2 staples left’ option

Once books are copied and stapled, use a paper cutter (or scissors) to cut in half & make 2 books

Makes a great ‘Make-A-Book’ center or use in a guided reading to help ring in the New Year!

*For 'Write Your Own Story' Version: Students write their own sentences to match the picture. Great to differentiate- some students may just label (‘hats’), others can write patterned sentences (‘I see the hats.’) and others can be more creative (‘Here is a red hat.’)

Use the picture/word cards for a seasonal word wall display too!

Follow up by having a party to ring in the New Year!

Supports and Aligns With CC Standards:

RL.1,2,3,5,10

RF.K.1,3,4
