Description
Netflix's Knock Down the House Documentary follows the story of four women as they each race in their separate state's primaries. The film follows the stories of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Cori Bush (Missouri), Paula Jean Swearengin (West Virginia), and Amy Vilela (Nevada). An early caption in the film read, “In 2018, record number of women, people of color, and political outsiders set out to transform Congress.” This documentary covers the trials and tribulations faced as these women fought to bring about change in their home states. It examines the need for change in politics and how these women and grassroot organizations are striving to make that change.
This documentary would be a great addition in a Women’s Studies course, a Government course, or a lesson on elections. This could easily be a no-prep lesson for you or last minute sub plans as well. This would also be a great lesson to use for International Women's Day (March 8th).
My video guide contains 45 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. The runtime of the documentary is 86 minutes and it is rated PG for thematic elements, language and brief smoking.
DISTANCE LEARNING- This assignment could be used for Distance Learning. Currently, Netflix has made this documentary available on their YouTube page to help students without a Netflix account.
