    Description

Engage your students with this selection of fun, Halloween-themed activities on resultant forces that have them practice calculating the net force and identifying its direction from examples of balanced and unbalanced force pairs. This bundle contains two resources: an active, printable around-the-room scavenger hunt that also includes a version for Google Forms™, and a fun digital escape room for Google Sheets™.

This mini bundle contains two resources with a combined total of 36 Halloween-themed questions, for quick assessments, practice or review.

Read on to find out more about the included activities:

Net Force Calculation Digital Escape Room Activity for Halloween

This is an engaging and self-checking, no-prep task that helps your students review how to identify the net force acting on objects by considering all forces shown in a diagram in the lead-up to Halloween.

The Google Sheet™ activity is self-checking. Correct answers open the locks. Once all three locks in a row have been opened, the next three questions are revealed. Opening the last row of locks will reveal a final riddle that students have to solve to escape the 'Haunted House'.

There are two versions included, each with 12 different questions (for a total of 24 problems). Answer keys are provided. Printable and digital recording sheets are also included to help your students keep track. Each version comes with a write-in (students type their answers into the answer boxes) and a drop-down option (students select their answers from a list of available answers).

    *** IMPORTANT ***

Please ensure that your district allows the use of Google Sheets™. If you have not created a free Google account, you will need to do so before using this activity. To use the resource as intended, your students will also need their own Google account. This resource will not work in Excel.

If assigning the activity on Google Classroom, make sure you select ‘make a copy for each student’. If you are using a different platform, please ensure that students are working on their own copy of the activity.

    NGSSMS-PS2-2
Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. Emphasis is on balanced (Newton’s First Law) and unbalanced forces in a system, qualitative comparisons of forces, mass and changes in motion (Newton’s Second Law), frame of reference, and specification of units. Assessment is limited to forces and changes in motion in one-dimension in an inertial reference frame, and to change in one variable at a time. Assessment does not include the use of trigonometry.
