Description

In this lesson, students will analyze propaganda posters used by Nazi Germany during World War II and the Holocaust to spread and preserve the basic ideas of Nazism and to dehumanize “inferior" groups. This lesson can be printed, used digitally, or a combination of the two. All resources are Google Drive resources (Docs, Slides, Forms, etc.). The ten images can be printed for your students, hung around your classroom, and students can do a gallery walk. You can also have students view the images online.

To begin, students will infer the meaning of each poster by attempting to match each poster with its correct English translation by using the visual clues in the posters. After students have correctly matched the posters to their translations, they will begin to identify patterns in the portrayals of the German people versus the Jews. Finally, students will analyze symbols and color symbolism used in the posters.
