Nazca Lines Activity

In this activity, students will recreate a Nazca Line drawing and gain an understanding of the perspective and scale of the real drawings in Peru. Each student will receive a small piece of a larger picture and will recreate their portion of the line drawing on an 8 ½” x 11” piece of paper. Students will not know the order or placement of their part of the picture, so only by piecing them together, will they understand what the drawing really is. This activity simulates what it would be like to stand up close on the lines, not knowing what one is seeing and then seeing the lines from air, getting a view of the whole picture.

This activity is not intended as a full lesson on the Nazca Lines, but rather a fun way to gain a better perspective on the scale of the drawings. Pair this activity with other resources or lessons on the Nazca Lines.

There are two drawings included so that you can use different drawings with different classes. Included are the Spider and the Hummingbird.
