This Natural Disaster Research Project allows students to CHOOSE their own way of sharing their knowledge about a disaster they have researched. Students become agents for the Federal Natural Disaster Relief Agency and are appointed by the President to research natural disasters. Their mission involves briefing the President and his advisors about their research. Students are able to select their disaster to research, write an informative report, and then choose between 5 different types of presentations. Students can be original, innovative and show off their abilities! The projects showcase students' talents and interests!
Students will choose a natural disaster to learn about for their research project. Each project, no matter the project medium chosen, has the same research requirements and requires student writing based on their research. The pages in the project walk students through each step of choosing and researching their topic to provide the background they need for making their projects amazing!
There are 2 options for this Natural Disaster Research project. You can do the work in class OR you can send the project home with your students. I have included Parent Letters for both options along with listing what pages to copy for each option. Included is one completely EDITABLE Parent Letter that you can compose for your parents and their specific needs. The other Parent Letters have an EDITABLE due date and signature!

Project Types:
→Living Report: Students dress up as a person who was harmed by their disaster and tell their experiences
→News Report Live: Students become a news anchor reporting LIVE on the scene of the disaster
→Live Interviews: Students interview people who affected by the disaster
→Google Site: Students design a Google site with details from their research
→Google Slides/ PowerPoint: Students design a slideshow with details from their research
Teacher Choices:
☐Types of Natural Disasters: Leave it wide open or impose some limits
☐How Many Sources? You can choose 3, 2, or 1 for the minimum requirement
☐Presentation: You can leave this out and just focus on the written report
☐Home or School: Complete the work at home or at school
☐Parent Letters: Multiple letters provided depending on your project choices
☐Teaching about Safe Searching and Reliable Resources: If your students already know this, you may leave out this part
