Native Americans and Land Theft, The Indian Wars, Conflicts, Wounded Knee
- PPTX
Description
This is a 20 page slideshow that focuses on Native Americans from the mid to late 1800's. It covers the concepts of relocation, land loss, bison killings, tribal reservations, cultural assimilation and Indian boarding schools, and the overall damaging effects these practices had on the Native American population.
It also focuses on "The Indian Wars" of that time era, including Red Cloud's War, the Sand Creek Massacre, the Massacre at Wounded Knee, and the Battle of Little Bighorn. There are 20 slides of lecture notes, photos from the era, video links for Custer's Last Stand and the Indian Boarding Schools, a visual representation of the U.S.'s depleted reservation area over time, and the last slide is a graph of Native American populations today (2010 census info), represented per tribe.
This is created for use in an American History course, and could be used for middle school or high school level. Please note that the material in these slides covers many sensitive and saddening topics. I tried my best to be straightforward and honest with the facts and events, while also being sensitive of the Native people that suffered so much in this country. I did not include any justification of the U.S.'s policies and practices.
