What educators are saying

Loved this project! Would do every year. Students loved making a poster and we combined the note taking with our social studies curriculum.
My students enjoyed this project! They were able demonstrate their knowledge of what the learned during the unit.

Description

This Native Americans Regions Project for upper elementary students is perfect for your 4th-6th grade classroom. This elementary research project is conducted in a group and will take your students about 4-5 days to complete (45 min. per day). Students will complete research on Native American regions and gather information on a variety of topics for that region such as home types, government, climate, languages, traditions, and more! In order to complete this elementary research project groups will need to become experts on their Native American region, take extensive notes, and create a visually appealing poster to present to the class.

Native American Regions Project includes:

  • KWL organizer to begin the study of Native Americans
  • North America map with a key- students will shade in the regions
  • Project outline- explaining the elementary research project and requirements
  • Outline for research- a 2-page note-taking sheet for your students
  • Rubric
  • Group presentation note sheets- students will take notes on each presentation
  • 19 pages of informational text about each of the regions
  • A power point presentation with a note sheet as a guided lesson
  • Native American word search

To help students complete the Native American project you will need:

  • Informational books for students to use as a resource for their project (I check out books about each Native American region/tribe at the public library)
  • If books are not available, computers for Internet research
  • Butcher/chart paper to create their posters

This is a great collaborative way to study the Native Americans in North America. Students will learn about important Native American regions and customs as well as learn how to work together and present all of their findings.

This was a wonderful project. It kept my students engaged and working collaboratively for weeks on end. Having the packet to clearly organize everything, was SO HELPFUL from the teacher perspective.

This is a comprehensive resource that has everything you'll need for students to create a project on Native American groups. The outline was helpful and students really liked coloring in the map.

Great organization for a Native American research project. Simple and to the point! Thanks!
