Description
Combine these two resources to teach your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade students about Native American Heritage Month and Biography (Informative) Writing. This is an easy beginning of the year informative writing unit that will guide your students through the entire writing process.
Students will research Native American Trailblazers and Heroes using the digital resource for Google Slides™.
This Digital Activity for Google Slides™ includes the following:
- Brief Description of Native American Heritage Month
- Table of Contents
- 9 Native American Hero Slides - each with a brief description and two links to reliable websites with articles and videos.
- Discussion Questions
- Activity Choice Board
You can use this resource in a variety of ways:
- Have your students explore the slideshow and answer the reflection questions. Use the reflection questions to lead a whole-class discussion.
- Have students pick one person to research in depth and then write a short summary of that person's life.
- Have students pick one person to research and then create a poster featuring his or her important accomplishments.
- Assign 2-3 slides per week in November and spend time researching them with your class.
Then, you can take students through the entire writing process with the Biography Writing Unit. They will write a biography of one of the people featured on the Native American Heritage Month resource.
This unit requires no prep. It does require one change to be taught as a bundle. The change is included as a bonus file.
