Description

Need help teaching your next narrative writing assignment? Do your kids need review, and/or need the tricks to take their writing to the next level?

This dense flip book of eight mini-lessons will elicit stronger drafts from your writers to get visible growth, AND they get a keepsake reference tool that they can keep forever!

Once you give them a prompt or assignment of your choice, this booklet will take writers through the whole writing process of brainstorming to revising, with thought-provoking questions in between to help them know what to add or edit.

Use the booklet in any of these ways:
• As a gift for students to use independently
• As a structured set of 8 mini-lessons that you can teach in 8 days or fewer
• As a differentiation tool, only doing direct instruction on the flaps that are needed

The eight tabs are: planning, the beginning, dialogue, figurative language, sensory details, indirect vs. direct characterization, the ending, editing & revising, and a BONUS review tab with a glossary and self-assessment questions.

Each tab includes:
The Basics: Typical information taught for that subject, great for students who are new to the topic OR need review.
Expert Level: Advanced information on the topic to help stretch those who are ready and apply the information to their current draft of writing.
Next: A grey box will scaffold students to an action step, usually writing something in the blank flap above that can be copied into their draft later. (This is a great formative assessment checkpoint, like an informal exit ticket built into each flap!)
Formatting: Clear tables, checklists, and mentor sentences

Assembly is quick and easy – you only need scissors, a stapler, and five minutes! The booklet given to you in BOTH a print-and-go PDF, as well as an EDITABLE version that you can modify if needed! When done, tuck it into a binder/folder, or hole-punch it to fit perfectly into binder rings. :)
