Description

This set includes detailed instructions and tips for use, a class roster for easy entry of grades and analysis of class-level data, and thirty individual student rubrics that populate from the Excel data sheet. (Aligned with both CCSS and GSE)

This rubric set is designed to make scoring easy on the teacher while still facilitating communication about standards-meeting work. Student rubric levels, scores and teacher notes are recorded on the roster page. Each student's score automatically populates in a personal rubric that can be saved, downloaded and shared as a pdf.

The rubric is based on the CCSS narrative standard with each row attending to the requirements of a standard element. This allows students to see whether they truly are meeting the standards, which elements are still lacking, where they exceed standards, what their next steps need to be, etc. However, the contents are editable on the first rubric page (student1). Once you edit the level descriptors on that page, all other pages will copy from it, so you automatically have rubric updates in the rest of the file if you decide to make changes.

One of the best things about this rubric is that by the time you finish scoring, you have a data analysis sheet already completed. At a glance, you can see who is at or above standard in what areas, which elements are in need of whole-class focus, which students need individual or small-group instruction with particular elements, etc. You are ready for your data meeting from the time your essays are graded.

Note: The data analysis sheet is also tagged to the rubric for student #1. So, if you change the elements on that rubric, your data analysis sheet automatically updates its headers.

I have roughly 140 sixth graders, and I teach writing exclusively, so I have MANY papers to grade. This system has made a huge difference in my grading; it has easily cut my time in half, and I know my students are getting individualized standards-based feedback.
