    Description

New York State Next Generation Learning Standards ELA/Math Grade 6

    “I Can Statements” Bundle

    Revised January 2024

New York State Next Generation Learning Standards ELA Grade 6 “I Can Statements”

    143 – ELA “I Can Statements” including:

**Standards for History/Social Studies, Sciences, and Technical Subjects

    ( Grades 6-8)

    6L1 - All Core Standards Grades 6 to 8

    6L2 – All Core Standards Grades 6 to 8

    116 - Math "I Can Statements"

These “I Can Statements” come from the revised New York State Learning Standards, now called The Next Generation Learning Standards.

These revised standards can be found at http://www.nysed.gov/aimhighny

While many of the standards are the same as before, the language has been changed to make the standard less vague.

Reading Informational Texts and Reading Literary Texts have been combined, at times, into one standard.

Each framework section was broken down into manageable goals and written in student-friendly I Can statements.

(Each I can statement is displayed on a colorful mini-poster (2 mini-posters per page).

Print on card stock or laminate for durability.

Display the mini-posters in your classroom to help students clearly understand the standards they are expected to master.

Print 16 to a sheet ( in most printer set-ups) to add to a teacher resource binder.

Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas 𝘝 = 𝘭 𝘸 𝘩 and 𝘝 = 𝘣 𝘩 to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the length of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for it in the answers. For example, “How old am I?” is not a statistical question, but “How old are the students in my school?” is a statistical question because one anticipates variability in students’ ages.
