What educators are saying

Our first unit in Science is Engineering and this resource includes fun and engaging activities to kick of the start to a new school year.
This is a great resource! It's designed well and the organization and design was very appropriate for my middle school special day class. I really appreciated this--the kids were able to access the information and have some fun. Thank you!

    Overview and Extra Worksheets

    Description

Save $$$ and get four extra worksheets when you buy the bundle! Help your students complete increasingly complex engineering activities with this high engagement, ready-to-print bundle!

All resources in the bundle are aligned to the NGSS Engineering Design Standards (3-5-ETS1 and MS-ETS1). You can use these resources as a mini engineering unit, as an introduction before students participate in an Engineering Fair, or resources can each be used as a standalone activities throughout the school year.

There are 5 full engineering design activities that take 1 to 3 days each, and also 4 additional worksheets that can be used as homework or extra practice. The activities are numbered 1 to 5, and start from most simple tasks and progress to most complex. The “Introduction to Engineering” lesson includes a very simple engineering activity, and the last lesson “M&M’s in Space” is much more complex project!

Each engineering activity includes Teacher Guides, Student Worksheets, and Answer Keys. Most materials needed for activities are household products and basic science lab materials.

Each document is a non-editable PDF. Clipart included in resource are from: Living Breathing and Loving Teaching and Instruct and Inspire

    Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
    NGSSMS-ETS1-2
Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
    NGSS3-5-ETS1-3
Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
    NGSS3-5-ETS1-1
Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
    NGSSMS-ETS1-1
Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
    NGSS3-5-ETS1-2
Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
