Description
Looking for a new STEM idea that's easy to implement?
Here's a STEM challenge game with a fun twist!
Students won't know what they are building - or what their materials are - until they start playing the game!
How Does It Work?
1. Turn over one BUILDING CARD to see what to build.
2. Turn over one MATERIALS CARD to see what to use when building.
3. Gather the correct materials and get started!
4. Brainstorm, plan, test, and improve the creation!
5. When the building is done, choose a THINKING CARD to encourage peer discussion and sharing of ideas. These cards challenge students to give compliments to each other, talk about challenges, growth mindset strategies, and which materials work best for particular challenges.
This is a crucial part of STEM because it encourages students to reflect on their thinking process and evaluate which materials are best for different challenges!
6. Complete a REFLECTION BOOKLET for a written component. These can be used throughout the challenge to record ideas and improvements, and sketch plans. There is also a focus on Growth Mindset thinking and reflecting on how we accept challenges.
These materials can also be used for ANY S.T.E.M. activities in your classroom, and the game can be played in pairs, teams, or even alone!
This is a super-versatile activity that really challenges higher level thinking in a fun game format! It works with any age group, and is especially fun with multi-age or big buddy time.
