Engage your students with this resource on Guy Fawkes' Lantern! Guy Fawkes is said to have been carrying this lantern when he was arrested in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament on the night that the Gunpowder Plot was discovered in 1605. The object therefore has a very immediate connection to the people involved in the Plot. It is also a good starting point for investigating lighting methods before electricity.
This resource introduces students to:
> Guy Fawkes
> The Gunpowder Plot
> Bonfire Night
> Different types of lighting through time
This resource is part of my 'Mystery Objects Series' - a set of lessons where I show my students an image of an artwork/historic object without any prior knowledge. We then explore the history of the object through various key moments and figures throughout history. This is a great way to introduce hidden histories and history of art into the classroom!
This resource is so versatile and engaging, which is why it's perfect as standalone classroom decor, used as part of a research activity, as part of a curriculum plan, or prep for a sub lesson!
This resource is suitable for Grades 3+.
