Description

Virtual Paleontology lesson. This is a non-fiction lesson plan of real fossils that were found 50 years ago. I have made a puzzle for students to put it together. As they find the ancient fossils they will have to look at them comparing them to clues that they will find to answer critical thinking questions. Student's will put all the clues together by looking, comparing, reading, matching, answering, and studying. The real fossil's will start to come to life and will tell them a story about what was really found. During and closer to the conclusion of this lesson they will find out,Who, What, When, Where, Why and How questions and answers. Student's not only put these puzzles together online but they also have to put them together in there mind to physically solve reasoning behind the clues.

By investigating features and clues students will find names of the skull, if it was a reptile or bird type creature, how old it was, type of eater it was, predator or prey species, what it was doing before death, names of ancient animals, using the prehistorical time table, names of bones only found in certain ancient animals dating back years. What these bones tell us about the story you will recover. Includes scientific information founded by scientists.

NGSSMS-LS4-1
Analyze and interpret data for patterns in the fossil record that document the existence, diversity, extinction, and change of life forms throughout the history of life on Earth under the assumption that natural laws operate today as in the past. Emphasis is on finding patterns of changes in the level of complexity of anatomical structures in organisms and the chronological order of fossil appearance in the rock layers. Assessment does not include the names of individual species or geological eras in the fossil record.
NGSSMS-LS4-2
Apply scientific ideas to construct an explanation for the anatomical similarities and differences among modern organisms and between modern and fossil organisms to infer evolutionary relationships. Emphasis is on explanations of the evolutionary relationships among organisms in terms of similarity or differences of the gross appearance of anatomical structures.
