The second World War took a costly toll. In order for the United States to prevail, it would take an all out effort and Americans back home wanted to do their part. This effort was known as the American Homefront.

The U.S. Government issued countless posters conveying all sorts of messages to an eager and patriotic audience.

Use these famous WW2 posters to teach students the power of persuasion and effective symbolism.

Have students analyze and recreate iconic propaganda posters of the era using this set of High Definition transparent images and symbols.

Challenge students to spot persuasive devices at work, weighing their message appropriately, and knowing when and how to use them for good.

File is delivered digitally and is optimized for Google Slides (also compatible with Powerpoint and Keynote) and works well for students of most grades. It can be be as simple as copy and paste from a preselected clipart library or students can find their own images or even create their own.

This file contains 14 slides and includes:

  • Suggested Directions
  • Completed examples (can be deleted after you familiarize yourself with build process)
  • Select clipart library images for WW2 figures, Symbols, Callouts
  • Original wartime propaganda posters for reference

Suggested Directions:

This is your Virtual WWII Propaganda Poster! Your job is to create a digital poster in the style of the Homefront propaganda posters of the era.

Insert images by searching the web or by copying and pasting from the image library in the slides below.

Be sure to include:

  • Main Title
  • Tagline (catchphrase or slogan)
  • Callout or Text Box
  • Background
  • At least 2 images

When finished click File/Download/JPG image or Screenshot it on a mobile device for submission.

Tips for a great looking composition:

  • When searching for images on the web add keywords like “png” “transparent” and “clipart” for image search results with a transparent background.
  • Use the image box handles to rotate and resize your image to make it fill your poster for a more striking effect.
  • Use the “Arrange/Order” tool to change the layer order of the images when needed.
