My Exponent Song, is a song I wrote to help students remember the five basic rules for simplifying exponents in Algebra class. I always teach this song one stanza at a time as we learn the rules. And,, at the end of the week, I invite groups of five to come to the front of the room and sing for extra credit. They bring the words, I turn on the music, and away we go. My rules for extra credit are simple, I have to hear you, you can't put the words in front of your face, and you have to sing together and with the music. By the time we are done, students have the song in their head to help them with their homework. So many students have told me the song got stuck in their head...yippee!!!! Sometimes you might even catch students humming this during a test!
