Description
This "Music of The Americas" is Unit 3 in my World Music Survey course, that begins in Asia and ends in Europe. While originally designed for asynchronous learning, it works perfectly for projection-based music classes in which students have either their own copy alongside, or a place to write down their answers for submission. There are several formative tasks within, and a summative wrap-up assignment that could easily be optional. When taught in full (full videos, discussion, etc.), this unit takes me about eight hours with my middle schoolers!
*Content Warning - "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday is featured in the USA/Women of Jazz, which may be upsetting for children unfamiliar with the detail of lynching. It's not a required part of the unit, so use your best judgement in your classroom!
