Description
I had a student whose family heritage was Turkish who begged me to do a unit on Turkey so we could share some of his culture with his classmates so this is it! Students loved it so much we actually performed one of the songs for our Spring Show!
In this lesson plan, students will be able to play percussion instruments for two Turkish Folk songs using whole, half , quarter, eighth notes, and quarter rest. They will learn to play the notes B, A, and G using tonguing techniques and eighth note sixteenth note rhythm patterns for a third song. I've made the rhythm introduction page editable for your own rhythm syllables (I use Ta-Di Mi).
Materials:
- Lesson Plan
- Slides or Powerpoint Download
- Access to Youtube
- Drums (I will sometimes use a gathering drum)
- Ocean drum or rain sticks
- Finger cymbals (or triangle)
- Tambourine
- Recorders
