Music Technology Bundle: 7 Mini Lessons

I’ve created this collection of mini lessons to be a fun way to incorporate technology into your music classes! These lessons are primarily aimed at the middle school or younger student who is fairly new to music technology.

I like to consider this a collection of lesson ideas to enhance or be a hands-on response to things you are probably already teaching. They are simple, easy to implement, and you can adapt them to your individual needs/teaching style. The lessons are not necessarily sequential and are generally designed to take between 20-60 minutes depending upon how “in depth” you choose to go with them. Each lesson reinforces different musical concepts like:
♪ steady beat, rhythm, and tempo
♪ dynamics
♪ time signatures
♪ composing/improvising a melody
♪ different musical styles/genres, etc
For every project, the project details sheet will include the following:
♫ a basic overview of what the project will be
♫ a step-by-step of how to accomplish the project
♫ a “tips and tricks” section designed to help you or students with common mistakes, challenges, etc. which I’ve encountered after teaching these lessons for many years
♫ A “techy stuff” section that explains the techy things beginners to GarageBand may be unfamiliar with

I’d like to note that if you've already purchased my 12 Project Bundle, some of these mini lessons are miniaturized versions of those projects. Not duplicates, however. More like, taking one key element from a project and expounding on it. In fact, these are helpful teaching lessons to prepare students for the more complex projects in the 12 Project Bundle.
While these are not formal lesson plans, they can easily be transformed into such with the addition of standards and a few other tweaks. You’ll need to learn how to do the projects yourself before teaching them to students. Many projects require the knowledge of other skills and topics like music theory, GarageBand functions, etc. which I have not included for you in the lessons, so in some cases you’ll need to teach those skills to students before assigning the lesson.
Although lessons have been created for use with GarageBand, if you choose to use a different application, the general concept for almost all lessons will still apply. If you don’t know how to use GarageBand you will probably need to study up on some of the basics (I've included some helpful resources), but you don’t need to be a pro to begin teaching these lessons. I wasn’t when I started. You’ll learn with the students as you progress!
