What educators are saying

I am using this game as a small group activity as well as a station/center activity for my upper kids. I taught the game to the whole group first and made sure they understood it was like Uno. They have enjoyed playing it in small groups and stations.

Description

I don’t know about you, but my students LOVE playing Uno! This version of “OO-NO” follows the traditional rules of the game (detailed directions included), but uses music symbols in lieu of numbers. This is a perfect game to play to reinforce rhythm and symbol recognition. Elementary music students will delight in playing this game, learning, without even realizing!

The game includes the following cards in red, yellow, green & blue:

  • Beamed eighth notes
  • Quarter note
  • Half note
  • Whole note
  • Quarter rest
  • Piano
  • Forte
  • Treble clef
  • Bass clef
  • Repeat sign
  • Draw 2
  • Reverse
  • Skip
  • Blank cards (add your own symbols to reinforce concepts currently studying)

Additionally, there are these game cards:

  • Wild card
  • Draw Four
  • Backing cards with “OO-NO” (should you be feeling extra crafty and want front/back to each card)

This game can easily be used for:

  • Full class instruction then small group work
  • Centers
  • Home practice (have them take home their own deck of cards to play with their families)
  • Assessment (join in the fun and take note of which students quickly recognize matching symbols–can they name what the card they putting down as they play it?)
  • Sub tub–PERFECT for inexperienced and non-musical substitutes
  • Observation: have someone coming in to see how things are going in your class? Your students will be so engaged, your supervisor will be floored!)
