What educators are saying

This was a great and fun review of operations with integers as well as graphing. My students were very engaged when working on this!
I loved that this incorporated integer operations (which we were learning) and coordinate graphing pictures (which the students love)!

Description

Practice integer multiplication and division with this fun mystery graph!

Students multiply and divide positive and negative numbers. Each solution creates an ordered pair that students graph on the coordinate plane to reveal an image of a ghost.

A great activity for a Halloween party, after a test, for practice, for sub plans or just for fun. Coloring the graph is optional, but not part of the activity.

Two versions of the same worksheet are included. One version is a one-page worksheet to save paper. A second version is two pages and provides larger spaces for students to write answers along with a larger graph.

Answer key is included. (The ghost shown here is graphed slightly wrong to deter cheating!)

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers.
Understand that multiplication is extended from fractions to rational numbers by requiring that operations continue to satisfy the properties of operations, particularly the distributive property, leading to products such as (–1)(–1) = 1 and the rules for multiplying signed numbers. Interpret products of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
Understand that integers can be divided, provided that the divisor is not zero, and every quotient of integers (with non-zero divisor) is a rational number. If 𝘱 and 𝘲 are integers, then –(𝘱/𝘲) = (–𝘱)/𝘲 = 𝘱/(–𝘲). Interpret quotients of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
