Description

Multiplying and Dividing Integers can be fun and interesting even during Distance Learning. This Interactive Journal takes students from basic multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers through a puzzle and real-life applications.

Skill lessons have three components: Definition, Thinking Questions, and Rote and Practice to ensure that students understand their math on a deeper level. Extra practice is done in fun and interesting ways such as the Scrambled Factor Eggs and learning about Restaurant Receipts or Car Insurance.

In this download you will receive:

  • PDF Teacher Guide with Answer Keys and lesson tips
  • Link to copy and download the Google Slides Interactive Math Journal
  • An original copy of the PowerPoint document so you can modify, add, or remove pages and insert the PPT into any online teaching system you use

Students will learn:

  • How to Multiply Integers
  • How to Compare Opposites
  • Tricks for Remembering Multiplication Rules
  • How to think of Multiplying as Factors
  • How to use Multiplying Integers on Receipts for multiple items
  • How to Dividing Integers

Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
Understand that integers can be divided, provided that the divisor is not zero, and every quotient of integers (with non-zero divisor) is a rational number. If 𝘱 and 𝘲 are integers, then –(𝘱/𝘲) = (–𝘱)/𝘲 = 𝘱/(–𝘲). Interpret quotients of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide rational numbers.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers.
