Description

Students will use an area model for multiplying mixed numbers. They can use this as another method of multiplying mixed numbers and/or checking their work after using the algorithm. The first problem is set up as an example to demonstrate the method. Students can visually see why the algorithm of changing to improper and multiplying works.

This is a word document so you can adapt it to meet the needs of your students.

I am using this with my 7th grade students as a review. It could be used for 5th or 6th grade as well.
