Description

This lesson is a hands-on introductory lesson into multiplication and division. It includes a read-aloud which will be the lead-in into the lesson, the book "A Remainder of One" by Elinor J. Pinczes. It also includes manipulatives which each student will be working with at his/her individual desk to act out multiplication and division problems mentioned in the story ("bugs" and "logs" will be represented by raisins and popsicle sticks, or it can be interchangeable by you). At the end of the activity, the students may then eat their raisins. It includes the song "The Bugs Go Marching," a variation of the song "The Ants Go Marching," which will be able to be sung by the class.
