The word problems in this worksheets pack are based on multiplication and division situations of :

- Equal groups

- Comparison with Difference

- Comparison with Sum

Prior Skill Required:

Students need to have prior knowledge or skill in solving one step multiplication or division based on equal groups and multiplicative comparison word problems.

Examples on Comparison with Difference and Comparison with Sum word problems are provided as these may be new concept to students. These examples are presented with bar models/tape diagrams and mathematical sentences to help students understand how to express the word problems into drawings (tape diagram/bar model), determine multiplication or division to apply and solve equation to get the answers.

A total of 14 exercises for students to practice. A step-by-step approach is adopted to let students learn progressively. Students determine multiplication or division and write mathematical sentences with the help of given diagrams to derive answers in the first 7 exercises.

They are required to solve the problem by providing visual and equation representations in their working for the remaining 7 exercises.

Level: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade

Based on Singapore mathematics approach.
