Multicultural Finger Family : Family Member Naming Activity

Is your child, niece, nephew, godchild, students utterly O B S E S S E D with the Finger Family song on YouTube? I have created a perfect engaging companion activity to go with the video, so they are not just watching & singing mindlessly on loop.

Directions:
-Print & laminate the Finger Family mat and the family pieces. Cut out the family pieces. There are 6 sets for each family, because let’s be real; your kids are going to lose or rip them. Cut out some extra pieces for those times.

-There are 4 multicultural families represented in this activity. Not all families look the same, and now your family can be represented how you wish!

-Hook & Loop time! Use the dots or cut the strips into small ½” squares. The rough side is called the “hook”. Its softer side is called the “loop”. Place the “hook” part on the fingers and in the circle under the name of each family member on the Finger Family mat. Place the “loop” part on the back of each family member circle.

-If you use the Finger Family mat on your fridge or any other magnetic surface, just place a magnetic piece on the family members.

-Have your child name all the family members and each finger. Ask them questions such as, “Who goes on the index finger? Who goes on the thumb finger?” etc.
