Description

This activity is used for Sociology courses but can be used to introduce any lesson about sterotypes and prejudices. The first few minutes should be done individually and then students work in collaborative groups. The groups must come to a consensus. I usually follow up by writing the 12 peopel on the board. One person from each group marks which people the kept. We discuss why each group eliminated or kept each person. The important part is that you do not classify any person female or male, black or white...unless it is specified on the sheet. For instance, we discuss why most people say the stripper is a she...and the homosexual police officier can't reproduce, or why religion is important to some...but is it needed to repopulate the earth. The actual activity takes about 20--30 minutes w/ discussion it can be 30-45 minutes.
