Description

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien is a standards based low prep novel study. Along with reading comprehension and writing activities, the literature guide promotes interesting discussion topics about society and what makes a person (animal) civilized.

This is a zipped file with two secure PDF files. The download includes a student PDF with all activity pages that teachers can print as a novel study packet for independent work, reading groups, or book clubs. The second PDF has teacher notes, answer keys, project handouts, book quiz, student samples, and the link to the Google Drive file for distance learning.

The unit includes a variety of reading skills activities from which to choose but my favorite activity asks students to design a map of the setting using details from the story.

The students also complete a creative writing activity where they rewrite the epilogue of the story. The students must use events in the story to create a logical new ending.

Unit Includes:

Common Core (4th grade)

Vocabulary Words for each chapter

Reading Comprehension Questions for each chapter

Character Chart

Story Plot Map

Cause and Effect Chart

Draw a Map using textual evidence

Irony activity page

Compare/Contrast

Identifying Key Problems

Creative Writing, Epilogue (rubric included)

Reading Comprehension Test

Book v Movie Worksheet (extension activity)

Google Drive file does NOT include the book test or epilogue writing activity.

**Teacher notes, answer keys, and student samples included**

**Page count includes digital notebook pages.
