Description
The Farewell deals with the struggle of a young Chinese-American woman to make sense of the differences between eastern and western cultural values. After growing up in America, she returns to China to visit her grandmother, who has been diagnosed with cancer. The family is keeping the diagnosis a secret from her grandmother and have concocted an elaborate plan to enable them all to say goodbye to her.

This package contains Chinese listening comprehension questions, an answer key for the questions, a quiz with an answer key, and a writing assignment based on the movie. The questions are divided into four sections, corresponding to four 20-minute sections of the movie. The movie may therefore be watched in one sitting or in several shorter sessions. The materials may be adapted for an AP Chinese curriculum or an advanced level classroom.
