Movement Skills rubric ( primary physical education) editable with Canva
Description
I use this to assess my grade 1s in September and June.
It is editable and customizable with the Canva link provided upon download, or you can simply print and use. You will need Canva for Educators (free - https://www.canva.com/education/ or Canva Pro)
This rubric is aligned with Stand C: Movement Competence from the Ontario Health and Physical Education Guide of 2019, but is appropriate to assess skills regardless of the curricula followed.
Page One has the heading that I use (skill check-in) as well as the Ontario standard. Page Two includes simply the rubric.
How I use this resource:
1) I get the implements needed assembled and have the students come up to chose what skills they want to show you, one-by-one until the check-list is complete. This way, they do know they are being assessed, but I find that they are keen to show you their skills, especially at the end-of-year. At the start of the year, it's a nice way to get to know them and connect.
OR
2) I set up 3-4 stations, one of them being the skill I want to check in on. I stay near this station and check each students' technique as they rotate through this station. This way they don't know if/when they are being evaluated and I get get a sense of what they can do, unprompted.
Please note that the standards included here are aligned with the Ontario curriculum, but the evaluation (1-3) scale is not, as we don't evaluate like that at my private school. Please use/edit as you see fit.
