Motorcycles and Sweetgrass - Novel Study and Text Analysis
- PDF
Description
This unit can be taught in tandem with the text Motorcycles & Sweetgrass, written by Drew Hayden Taylor in 2011.
I have used this resource alongside the text for my grade 11 university and college level First Nations English classes. It was taught over about 10 weeks.
Included:
Pre-reading work, to provide some background, context and social/historical significance to the story prior to reading. This includes looking at the epigraph of the text both before and after completion.
Basic comprehension questions for each chapter, as well as extension questions to instill deeper meaning as you move through the story. These vary in form from literal, to inferred, to more context related questions to provide for some classroom discussion and debate.
Some work on intertextuality referenced, to help support cultural understanding of the story and also contextualizing events and key moments within. I found this of significant importance, as students were able to search for, clarify and connect these ideas directly to the story.
Thank you for purchasing and downloading this product. I hope it will fulfill your classroom needs, wherever that classroom may be.
