Description

Thank you for your interest in this short story unit.

When I created this unit, I had four main goals in mind: (1) To expose my students to a variety of reading strategies, (2) To draw attention to varying levels of information found in text, (3) To have the students practice compare and contrast, and (4) For my students to gain experience in narrative writing skills .

It is always my goal to provide useful, easy-to-use lessons and units, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Included in this short story unit are: A lesson-plan sequence overview for the unit; Individual, step-by-step, lessons plans; activities; and, a copy of the short story for the following: A Dash for Loose Cash, by Frank Schaffer Publications, Singapore Whipping by Frank Schaffer Publications, Button, Button by Richard Matheson, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.

This is an easily-adaptable unit that will appeal to a variety of students, with a varying academic abilities. I’ve included adapted blackline masters and activity ideas for your struggling readers.
