Description
Suggested contents for 32 fraction "boxes" or activities; each activity covers one topic. Includes objectives for each task. The activities presented here are expected to be presented about 1-2 lessons/week so this activity is approximately 20-30 weeks worth of lessons. If you need help presenting the lessons, I highly recommend the Cultivating Dharma Montessori albums but most lessons are fairly self-explanatory.
The main topics covered are: Introduction to Fractions, Benchmark Fractions, Equivalent Fractions, Adding/Subtracting Fractions with like Denominators, Fractions of Sets/Groups, Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers, Divisibility (e.g. can you make thirds of a group of 20?), Multiplying Fraction by a whole, Adding/Subtracting Fractions with unlike denominators, and "Mixed Up" Operations fractions which start to work on algebraic reasoning.
The main topic not covered is Multiplying/Dividing a Fraction by a Fraction. I designed it to be relatively comprehensive for a "first pass" of fractions for all of lower elementary Montessori. Multiplying/Dividing a Fraction by another Fraction is considered upper elementary work and is therefore not included.
This material aligns with Montessori so it's not fancy. There are no QR codes or funny pictures or crazy colors. It's just the work. :)
