What are Boom Cards?  And Why Should I Use Them?

    • Boom Cards are interactive, digital teaching materials that include a control of error.  Students receive immediate feedback if they are correct or if they should try again.

    • Boom Cards help save resources because they are completely online.  They never need printing, laminating, or storing.

    • Boom Cards can be played on computers or mobile devices through the free Boom Cards app.

    • One deck of Boom Cards can be assigned to your individual students or to your entire class.

    • Teachers with a paid Boom Learning account (very affordable!) can see if, and how well, an assigned deck has been completed by a student.

    • Boom Cards are a great fit for students working away from school due to illness, vacation, or just extra time to practice skills.

    • Boom Cards are fun for the students and easy on the teachers!

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have an account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). For assignment options that report student progress back to you, you will need to purchase a subscription. If you are new to Boom, you will be offered a free trial. • Cards 1 - 4 are a tutorial on how to use the division bead board and read the answer.

    • Cards 2 - 10 each feature 1 division fact problem dividing by a number 1 - 9.  For example, in the divided by 7 deck, the problems are in order:  7 ÷ 7,  14 ÷ 7,  21 ÷ 7… all the way to  63 ÷ 7.

    • At the beginning of each deck, the child will drag and drop the correct number of green skittles to the top of the board, just like when using the real multiplication bead board.  The ‘bowl’ of beads is already prepped with the correct number of beads to share out.

    • Because dragging and dropping many beads can be tedious for students, each problem has the previous problem’s beads already in their places on the board.  For example, on the card  21 ÷ 7, the beads from 14 ÷ 7  will already be in place.  The student only needs to bring over 7 more beads to find the answer.

    • To the right of each row, the child will type in the multiples of 7, as they have been revealed in the prior problems, reinforcing skip counting.  This also helps the child stay on track when counting the beads.

    • After reading the answer to the division problem, the child types it into a fill in the blank box, and clicks ‘Submit’.

    • If any of the parts of the problem are incorrect, that answer will circle in red and the student will be prompted to try again.

    • Once all aspects of a problem are correct, the answers are all circled in green and the next card is presented automatically.
