Montessori Bell Support Materials

Music notation is to the bells as writing is to the moveable alphabet. Once a child is ready for follow-up work with the Montessori bells, these sheets will be useful for providing variety and solidifying concepts.

What's Included:

4 half sheet templates to accompany work with the Montessori bells-

• Bells with discs and dotted line note names
• Bells with blank discs
• Bells with blank treble clef staff lines

Full page sheets with discs and whole step/half step markings – meant to be taped together

Learning goals:

Solidify concepts learned using the Montessori bells and move towards abstraction through learning music notation.

Points of interest:

• Children enjoy writing music as they enjoy writing sentences
• The bells are a beautiful and cherished work in the classroom and many children are excited to be ready for additional work with the bells
• The templates offer plenty of variety to meet all skill levels

Pre-requisite:

• Students should have had all initial bell presentations as well as plenty of practice playing the bells, labeling with white discs, as well as working with the treble staff and black discs with numbers and note names.

How to present:

• Choose templates based on the child's needs, interest and skill level
• Observe the child's ability to correctly identify note names, lines, and spaces
• If the child has trouble, return to concrete work with the bells as opposed to notation work
• Offer additional extension activities as the child's interest dictates
