Description

This web quest was designed to get students reading about famous monsters of folklore and urban legend from around the world by reading about crimes committed by an unidentified monster. They are given 3 suspects per crime (there are 3 crimes). They must use provided websites to research the suspects then, on a worksheet they write a brief argument identifying the perpetrator and explaining why they know that particular monster is guilty.

At the end of the web quest they are told to create their own monster and write a short (1-2 page) story about one of that monster's crimes. A rubric for the short story is provided. They are required to use all parts of a narrative, descriptive language and, draw a picture of their monster.

This assignment is perfect for Halloween celebrations, introducing students to monsters and creatures from a wide array of folklore and mythologies.
