What educators are saying

This was a great way to introduce some of the key ideas behind the United Nations. This can sometimes be overwhelming or confusing for students, but this activity was pretty straightforward.
Great for my MUN class! This really helped them with their understanding of their roles as delegates.

Description

Introduce your students to the purpose, organization, and governing bodies of the United Nations with this engaging lesson bundle! This bundle includes two inquiry-based lessons that will facilitate students' higher-order thinking regarding the complex nature of world issues and how the United Nations approaches these challenges.

These introductory lessons are a great way to start off your Model United Nation club or class. They will also serve as stand alone lessons if your class is studying the UN and you want to deepen their understanding.

Lesson 1: Introduction to the Charter

In this lesson students will sort images of world issues into categories. Then, they will match these world issues to statements made in the United Nations Charter Preamble and Article 1. The objective is to clearly see the correlation between the world issues, or needs, and the purposes of the UN.

This introductory lesson is a great way to start off your Model United Nation club or class. It will also serve as a stand alone lesson if your class is studying the UN and you want to deepen their understanding.

Included in Lesson 1:

  • Directions
  • Student handouts
  • 21 images (for image sort activity)
  • Answer guide

Lesson 2: Digging Deeper into the Charter and Organization

  • Prepare a lesson for the class about their assigned organization
  • Use the included graphic organizer to plan, design, teach, and check for understanding
  • Present lesson on assigned organization to the class
