What educators are saying

Thanks! I have only just started using model sentences, so I am still learning how to get the most benefit out of them. I love the resource.
We absolutely love the modeling sentences and graphics. The students have started writing responses to them as well. It has been an awesome way to begin our classes!!

Description

Celebrate March with these 31 Model (Mentor) Sentences that will help your students improve their reading comprehension and learn to write like an expert!

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • Slide Show - Choose PowerPoint or Google Slides
  • Teacher Guides
  • Discussion Points for Each Day
  • Student Recording Sheets

  • Each day's slide includes a fun picture, a national holiday, and a model (sometimes called mentor ) sentence.
  • Each day's slide also comes with a teacher discussion guide to help get your students talking about the things they notice or like about the sentence. Also with the discussion guide, there's an "imitation sentence" idea.
  • Each day's slide also comes with student reflection sheets. They'll write down the things they notice or like and then try to write a similar sentence themselves.

Includes:

  • St. Patrick's Day
  • Would Poetry Day
  • Read Across America Day
  • International Women's Day
  • Pi Day
  • AND LOTS MORE!

What if you don't have time for this?

We know that you’re juggling a multitude of responsibilities and tight timelines. The beauty of this resource is its adaptability, which means it can seamlessly fit into even the most hectic schedules.

Ideas to help make sure you're not sacrificing other learning opportunities that your day may already be full of:

Morning Routine: Use the slide show as a morning starter, setting a positive tone for the day. This 5-minute activity can lead to improved focus and set the stage for more complex tasks later in the day.

Transition Tool: Use the model sentence when transitioning between subjects or after recess. It serves as a calm and educational bridge, helping students shift gears effectively.

Closure Activity: End your day or a particular subject with the day's model sentence. This allows students to leave with a valuable takeaway, pondering the sentence structure or theme.

Optional Recording Sheets: While the recording sheets offer a more in-depth exploration, they aren't mandatory. The verbal discussion of the model sentence, especially when done consistently, is still a potent tool for enhancing language skills. Use the recording sheets when you feel your class has the time and energy for a more extended activity or as an optional homework assignment.

Group Discussions: If individual recording seems time-consuming, split students into groups once a week to discuss a selection of sentences from that week. They can then present their favorite sentence and its imitation to the class.

Great for 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade!
