Missing Reindeer - A Christmas Creative Writing Project

Rudolph is missing! Your students will love developing the story behind Rudolph's mysterious disappearance.

Here's the basic plot of the story:
1. Rudolph is missing.
2. Someone goes out looking for Rudolph
3. The person or character out looking for Rudolph is deceived throughout the story as he/she repeatedly mistakes other red objects for Rudolph's nose.
4. At the end of the story Rudolph is finally found.

This creative and fun writing project will keep your students engaged and attentive before Christmas break while they practice their fictional writing skills. The writing project focuses on writing a strong lead, adding figurative language, and using vivid verbs and adjectives in their writing.

The final draft is written into a creative book that your students will be anxious to complete. The last page of the book has a red fuzzy ball attached to it. All of the pages before the final page have a circle the size of the fuzzy ball cut out of them. Therefore, you see the red fuzzy ball on every page. On the last page, the fuzzy ball will be Rudolph's nose. On all of the other pages the fuzzy ball will be part of the story as some other object that deceives the main character.

This project includes a 60 page presentation that walks the students through the project one step at a time. It will allow you to display the pages on the Smartboard as you demonstrate how to write the story.

I have included a sample story for you to use as you model the project. You can go through the process of writing the story along with them. Simply use my sample story as your own as you demonstrate how you would write your own story. The sample story includes a rough draft and a final draft. The final draft takes the rough draft and adds figurative language, vivid verbs and adjectives.

Student pages are included for planning and writing the rough draft. There are also many options for paper styles for the final draft.
