Description

This is a two-week literature study for the book titled The Apple and the Arrow, by Conrad and Mary Buff. In this book, 12-year-old Walter experiences a revolution in 1291 in the area that is now Switzerland.

The guide includes:

  • vocabulary activities
  • discussion questions
  • reading activities: protagonist/antagonist, prose/poetry, fill in a century chart, idioms, similes, word choices, fill in a comparison/contrast chart, alliteration, metaphor, make a list, sequence, theme, formulate a conclusion, review crossword puzzle, bull's eye review game, analyze illustrations, give your opinion
  • related activities
  • classical music information
  • life applications/Bible
  • web links
  • a crossword puzzle
  • activities that are able to be used as assessments
  • an answer key

This is an interactive guide that enables parents/teachers to facilitate an oral discussion of the book, but it only provides space for one student to complete fill-in-the-blank activities. If you want to use this guide with more than one student, check out the options:

1) Reproducibles (they contain all of the fill-in-the-blank type of activities):

Mini-Guide for Juniors: The Apple and the Arrow Reproducibles

  • When you purchase one set of reproducibles, you have permission to make a copy for each of your students.
  • An Answer Key is not included with the reproducibles; the answers for the activities on the reproducibles are found at the end of the mini-guide.

2) Workbook (space is provided for students to write all of the answers):

Mini-Guide for Juniors: The Apple and the Arrow Workbook

  • You do not need the reproducibles if you purchase the guide in workbook format; all of the fill-in-the-blank activities are included in the workbook.

NOTE:

  • The content of the guide in interactive format and the guide in workbook format is the same; the only difference is spacing.

Mini-guides are used in home schools, co-ops, and traditional schools. Click on the link to browse through all of the Mini-Guides for Juniors.
