Description
This document outlines the criteria for a contest to re-design the classroom using flexible seating. It can be done individually or in a group. The student(s) with the best design (won by student votes) gets to actually re-design the classroom.
It is helpful to have a document with a classroom furniture inventory (either what is already in the classroom or what is intended to still be purchased for the classroom) for the students to use.
The kids absolutely LOVE this project! And...if the teacher doesn't like the design, they can tell students that the winners get to transform the room for the next month or quarter and then the teacher can put it however they see fit from there.
If the teacher is serious about redesigning the room with flexible furniture, a great way to accomplish that is to start a GoFundMe account, submit a grant proposal, ask for donations, or hit up garage sales! Raising the money could also be part of the criteria of winning (promoting online, through social media, enlisting family and friends, school drive, etc....)...it gets the kids invested in the project and they can raise a lot of money because of it!
