What educators are saying

I reduced the size a little and copied the slider on card stock. I had my students construct the slider and had them place it in an envelope and then glued it in to their interactive notebooks.
My students really enjoyed using this resource. It helped them keep track of how many places they move the decimal. It was a hands on resource.

Description

Overview:

Meet your new favorite hands-on metric system conversion tool! You can teach the metric system in just minutes using the Metric System Slider tool from Avery Science. Your students will love converting units within the metric system using the slider and you will love that assembly requires only scissors and a single staple! Print and go? Yes!

How does it work?

To use the slider, students will move the arrow viewing window to the unit they are first given, then slide it along to the unit they are converting to. As the prefixes appear in the viewing window, students will count the number of spaces the arrow moves and note the direction it moves. Students can then write the answer to conversion problems using the slider as a support.

Students Will:

  • Cut out the slider template and assemble (10 minutes or less!)
  • Use the slider to supplement notes and assignments

Included in this Resource:

- Teacher instructions

- Assembly video (timelapse)

- Slider template
